Gibson writes "An individual's background may shape their perceptions and value systems when responding to the personal possessions of deceased family and friends". This is something I hadn't thought about when starting my project so this book has revealed a new insight into my research. Gibson documents the interviewee's nationality, sexuality, education, gender, income, and religious beliefs. When I begin my interviewing I will make sure to document these aspects (in a sensitive manner) as I think it will allow me to gain a better and more thorough understanding of the research at hand. It is interesting to read about Gibson's research as she found that "women were more interested talking on this subject", "more than have of the interviewees were religious" and based on income, the objects may "make up the majority of a person's possessions". It is not just objects I am trying to capture in my work, I am trying to encapsulate the emotion and person themself so I must be able to have a well-rounded understanding of who the person is.
